Route: Loughborough Loop
Distance: 40 km
Time: 1 - 1.5 days
Best Map: NTS 31 C-8
Online: Regional Map - Canoeing Trip Planner (use BACK button to return)

  • Start at the Boat Ramp located on Loughborough Lake, where the Perth Road crosses the lake. This ramp is owned by the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority, and parking is available.

  • After passing under the bridge, follow the south shoreline in a northeasterly direction.

  • Travel through a group of islands around the point of land into Battersea Bay.

  • Continue in a northerly direction following the shoreline past Big Island, then turn northeast through the group of islands leading to the upper reaches of Loughborough Lake. These islands include Hurricane, Sunset and Sheep Islands.

  • The lake at this point becomes quite narrow, and fewer signs of civilization are apparent.

  • Paddling past Doe, Buck and Snake Islands, the headwaters of the Lake are reached.

  • Return to the boat ramp, following the north shore to the bridge.

  • An additional 16 kilometres can be added to this trip by continuing in a southwesterly direction from the ramp to the village of Kepler at the southwest end of Loughborough Lake and back.
