On this page you will find the descendants of James Watson, born about 1808-1813 in Edinburgh, Scotland (New North Church Parish) and Jane Marks (born abt. 1825). Family history has James coming from Ayr, Scotland but his military records show him as born in Edinburgh. Possibly the family moved to Ayr sometime after James was born?
James was a soldier in 93rd Regiment, a plumber by trade. He took discharge from the 93rd in Montreal in November 1845. Lived in Montreal but travelled/moved to Cushing, Quebec, Canada to help install machinery in mills and factories (his son William, b.1850, was bap. in Chatham so James & Jane likely living there at that time. Son Alexander, b.1852, was born in Montreal). Made friends with O'Brien family who lived in Chatham (Cushing). In 1853, his wife (Jane Marks) and two of his sons, William and Alexander died in the space of 3 months (perhaps an epidemic in Montreal in 1853??).
James brought his sons William and James to live with the O'Brien family in Chatham (Cushing) in about late September, 1853. This was the last the family has records of James' whereabouts. He was never heard from again. William died in late October, 1853 and was buried at Chatham. James grew up with O'Brien family.
