Sap Buckets photo by: Ken Watson, 2001 |
A ring of sap buckets around a very large maple tree. Over the course of the 4 to 6 week long season, each of these buckets will collect from 10 to 20 gallons (40 to 80 litres) of sap, enough to produce 1 to 2 quarts (1 to 2 litres) of maple syrup. The sap collected by these buckets will represent about 10% of the tree's total sap flow. |
