Deer in Lock at Jones Falls photo by: Ken Watson, 2000 |
In the left pane, the deer is in the centre of the middle lock, looking at the now open gates leading into the lower lock, and freedom. In the middle pane, the deer trotted out to the edge of the sill, realized that there was about an 8 foot drop, tried to put on the brakes, and then slid, feet first, in a classic 3 point dive, into the water below. In the right pane, the deer is swimming out of the lower lock to freedom. The successful release of this deer was organized by lockman Jim Watters and his crew, who are more used to locking though boats than they are locking through deer. |
