Raccoons photo by: Ken Watson, 2001 |
A pair of raccoons are checking out the waterfront. Most often active at night, raccoons are somewhat of a rare sight to see during the day. But, if you're in a quiet bay and look closely along the shoreline, you might just spot one. In 2000, raccoon rabies moved from New York State into Ontario. So while these animals may appear cute, people should keep their distance and make sure that your pet dog or cat has recently been vaccinated for rabies. If you are a local resident, do not feed raccoons and make sure that any food source such as compost is in a tightly sealed container. |
