Lower Nicholsons - Lock 18 photo by: Ken W. Watson |
A single lock provides 6.5 feet (2 m) of lift. This lock is at the northern end of an excavated channel that bypasses the original rapids. A second lock (Upper Nicholsons) was placed near the centre of the excavated channel. A dam placed in the Rideau River near the head (south end) of the cut provides a navigation depth of water.
