New Gates for Jones Falls photo by: Ken Watson, 2001 |
A fall colour tour through the Rideau can reveal all sorts of things - in this case a set of new lower gates ready for installation at Jones Falls. We can tell that these are the lower gates since they have gate valves (the red rectangles) located at the bottom of the gates. Rideau lock gates are made of Douglas Fir and last an average of 15 years. They are made to exact specifications for the specific lock they are intended for at the Rideau Canal shops in Smiths Falls. |
