If anything could be called a typical view of a lockstation, this is it. The simple lockhouse with washrooms, green lawns, picnic tables, calm water and beautiful stonework. Of course each lockstation has its own unique features - a bit of history, a heritage building or two, unique ecology, etc. At Burritts Rapids it's the "Tip to Tip" trail, which allows the visitor a leisurely stroll down the length of the island, passing beside the village of Burritts Rapids, one of the oldest communities along the Rideau.
