Kingston Waterfront photo by: Ken W. Watson, 2004 |
The southern entrance to the Rideau Canal is Kingston, known at the "Limestone City" (from the number of buildings built with local limestone). In this photo the Brigantine Fair Jeanne is passing in front of Shoal Tower and Kingston City Hall. The boats behind the breakwater are in Confederation Park Marina. Shoal Tower is one of several martello towers in Kingston, built in the mid-1800s to defend the harbour. Together with historic Fort Henry they are part of the Rideau Canal's nomination for World Heritage Status. |
