On clear, cold days in winter, residents of Ottawa strap on their skates and take to the frozen surface of the Rideau Canal. A total of 7.8 km of the Rideau, from downtown out to Dows Lake is maintained as a skating surface in winter. In this picture we can see skaters on the canal with two Ottawa landmarks, the Canadian Parliament buildings in the background on the left and the Chateau Laurier Hotel in the background on the right. |
